Job Description

This contract position is for an Operating Room Nurse in a Level I trauma center, requiring a minimum of 3 years of experience. The role involves providing surgical nursing care across various service lines (excluding CV), with a focus on Level I trauma, bariatric, general surgery, neurology, orthopedic, plastic surgery, transplant, and urology cases. The position includes on-call responsibilities and requires adherence to specific time-off request procedures.

Location: Springfield, Illinois, United States,

Responsibilities:

- Providing skilled nursing care in the operating room across multiple surgical specialties.
- Performing a wide range of surgical nursing tasks, including but not limited to: preparation and maintenance of surgical equipment, assisting surgeons during procedures, monitoring patient vital signs, administering medications, and providing post-operative care.
- Managing and responding to emergencies, including code responses and managing situations involving latex allergies and malignant hyperthermia.
- Adhering to strict infection control, radiation safety, and specimen handling protocols.
- Utilizing Cerner electronic health record system (preferred).
- Collaborating with the surgical team and other healthcare professionals.
- Participating in on-call rotation (approximately 1 per week).

Required Skills & Certifications:

- Minimum 3 years of operating room experience.
- Current active Registered Nurse license in Illinois.
- BLS certification.
- Experience with a wide range of surgical procedures (detailed in input).
- Experience with various surgical equipment and instrumentation (detailed in input).
- Proficiency in emergency management, including code response and managing specific medical emergencies (detailed in input).
- Experience with blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling, and universal protocol procedures.
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

- CNOR and CST certifications.
- Cerner experience.

Special Considerations:

- 4x10-hour shifts (0645-1715).
- One weekend per month required.
- On-call responsibilities (approximately 1 per week).
- All time off requests must be approved by the manager.
- Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; additional cancellations will be billed.
- On-call shifts count as cancelled shifts.
- Will work with all service lines except Cardiovascular.
- Level I trauma experience required.
- Specific surgical case experience required (detailed in input).

Scheduling:

- 4 ten-hour shifts per week (0645-1715).
- One weekend per month is required.
- Block scheduling is not accommodated.
- On-call rotation (approximately 1 per week).
